reading through the first installment of gamespy's 25 most underrated games of all time, i realized to my horror that i'd never played wizardry 8. the reason being that wizardry gold (which came out after wizardry vii and so technically could have been thought of as wizardry 8 even tho it was actually just a jazzed up version of wizardry vii) has been sitting in our game box for the past, um, 7 years. naively, whenever i heard wizardry 8 mentioned, i assumed they were either talking about gold or wizardry for the ps2 (in and of itself a quite fun game). anyway, what it all comes down to is that i missed a really good game and am promptly rectifying that situation.

blogspot is now being used for advertising. while skimming through blogdex, i noticed a link to laura schlessinger's book. curious as to why people were linking to it, i checked out the trackback. the 10 links were all made by the same person "hank" using a wide variety of blogspot weblogs. the post directly under this obscure book link is an advertisement for his other blogspot weblog which is a innovative use of the weblog medium to create a "store".
while the twisted blog usage is mildly interesting, i'm more disturbed that the #7 link on blogdex is completely artificial. although it does explain the profusion of "talk like a pirate day" links. i think it's time to find a new aggregator.

about a month ago i installed the latest google toolbar which has a wonderful popup blocker feature (along with a blogThis button if you're still using blogger). Anyway, the popup blocker was working great until recently stray popups started to appear. today i finally decided to track down the problem. google suggested that it was probably spyware causing it. so i downloaded SpybotSD. to my horror, i had about 150 spyware problems. most of them were trackback cookies, but some were evil programs and registry changes. if you haven't already, i highly recommend getting a tool like this. it'll clean up your system and block further problems. yuck. icky. bad.

Pride and Prejudices:
"Because the bitterest contradiction of all may be that this war was waged—first and foremost—to save face after the humiliation and suffering of September 11. It was meant to inspire awe in the Arab and Muslim world, as former CIA operative Marc Reuel Gerecht and others insisted it should be. And in that it truly has failed. Every day we look weaker. And the worst news of all it that it’s not because of what was done to us by our enemies but because of what we’ve done to ourselves."

i'm not sure why it never occured to me before, but jesse ventura said on Real Time with Bill Maher last night that the reason the U.S. wouldn't legalize marijuana is because the drug companies want you to pay lots of money for their chemicals that do the same thing.

in other personal news, i'm on my third attempt at controlling my seizures with medication. first we tried increasing the gabitril i was already on. didn't work and made me depressed, tired, and generally icky. then we tried topomax which appeared to be working, but had a very nasty side-effect which involved emergency trips to the bathroom. no way i was gonna be doing that for the rest of my life.
so, i'm now taking felbatol. felbatol is a particularly nasty drug because it can cause aplastic anemia. they don't actually prescribe it very often because of this. except when you're running out of options. it's hard to say whether it's working on not but we'll see.

so i went and took my citizen test/interview last month. amazingly, i passed. i was positive that i would fail the civics test. i mean come on, how much history do you remember 20 years later? i'm not quite a citizen yet tho, i have to take the oath. in a couple of week myself and (probably) several hundred others will meet and the san jose civic auditorium to do just that. yay! i won't have to get a new photo for my green card and renew it every ten years.
