oh. before this sinks to the back of my mind over-shadowed by thoughts of daoc, smoking poppy is a truly excellent book. i have thoroughly enjoyed every one of graham's books and this one was no exception. the story grips you from the beginning. completely absorbing. constantly surprising. effortlessly flowing. characters so real that you feel like you know them. and now, back to the long excruciating wait for the next book to come out. i feel like an opium smoker getting 5 hours of pleasure and then having to wait a year for her next fix. 01:36 pm

confessions of a daoc junky: daoc is truly addictive. i am unable to stop playing. nothing else matters. yesterday, i was proud of myself because i did the dishes. we were out of coffee cups. but i had to make sure i did them before i went downstairs. if i'd started playing daoc they never would have gotten done. today, i managed to finish smoking poppy. again, only because i did it before coming downstairs. and also because i'd managed to read the first few chapters while crafting in daoc. (sometimes items take a long while to make.) jason is upset that i'm playing so much. but it's only because he's jealous and wants to play all day too. jason has christmas week off. it will be spent playing daoc. except for the annoying interludes where time must be spent with family. those days will seriously cut into our game time. i wonder whether i should be scared.

there is now a blogdex social network explorer. i could claim that i'm linking to ev because i found it at his site. but, i'm really linking to him because it says i have no friends. 09:23 am

sometimes, i still get a kick out of weblog stories showing up in respected mainstream places. when i first started my weblog almost 3 years ago, i would mention it and people would look at me funny and say "what the hell is that. why on earth would you want to do that?". now weblog stories are showing up in the most unexpected places. like Fresh Air. via ev. 09:20 am

when kirsty was here, we were watching the sopranos. i always watch the beginning credits because i like the song so much. there's a shot of the world trade center in those credits. kirsty wondered if they'd edit it out. i find it disturbing that so many shows are editing out pictures of the wtc. seeing pictures of it is a reminder. a reminder that most people need. remembering is important. 09:05 am

sob. reflections is now longer. now i'll never get to finish the last 6 levels. thanks andrea. 08:59 am

normally when someone sends me a link promoting their own website it turns out not to be link-worthy. when i went to Notes from the Road i had low expectations and the home page did nothing to improve that expectation. then i started reading the great basin dispatch. i'm now hooked. the writing is exquisite and engrossing and the photos are spectacular. 12:07 pm

woot! i'm immortalized forever. not on the web this time, but in print. i'm in the acknowledgements of graham joyces' latest smoking poppy. i have one of the proof copies sitting next to me. now, if i could only break away from daoc to read it... 01:48 pm

Reflections. um... severe obsessive game warning. do not blame me if you get nothing done for the next 2 hours. 05:45 pm

Lord of the Rings vs Harry Potter. an interesting side link from the mefi thread. 04:47 pm

In Defense of C. S. Lewis 04:42 pm

Taking Curl for a Whirl. the biggest problems i see with this are the need for a new plug-in and the expense of shifting technologies. there is the upside of a client-side application interface but, i see huge security concerns cropping up around this. 01:14 pm

The Quest to End Game Addiction. this article is scary. mostly because the basis behind it is that these peoples' problems are caused by the games. as opposed to them already having an "addictive personality". however, i'll be the first to admit that life gets put on hold in order to play a game. in fact, we were just discussing how the week jason gets off at christmas will be spent playing daoc. 01:02 pm

time seems very distorted lately. it used to feel like i'd done things a long time ago but in reality it was only a short time. now it seems that i did things a short time ago but in reality it's a long time.

in 2 months i'll have been doing eatonweb for 3 years. it doesn't seem that long. i've been doing a contract for cybersource. for some unfathomable reason, i have a great reputation there because of work i did 4 years ago. yesterday, i looked at the old version of a product that i may be working on next and had serious dejavue because it was based off a design i did 4 years ago. very strange feeling. 12:14 pm

thank you dave, for Turning the lights back on. i was a little bothered that i don't have time to set this up. 11:53 am

Could Nightly Sleep Become Optional? i read this yesterday on mefi and didn't get a chance to link to it. i think it'll be really valuable for some uses. and become really abused by others. 11:28 am

i find it extremely scary that kpmg would attempt to implement a policy that requires a formal Agreement before linking to them. via kottke. 11:11 am

hmmm. i don't think i would have ever considered myself a mona lisa. but, that is the result i got from the art test. via blogdex. 11:05 am

IT is finally revealed. unfortunately, it's not a hovercraft. personally, i prefer mr. garrison's version of IT better. here's a broken link to a picture of mr. garrison's IT. hopefully, they'll actually upload the images to their server. 10:00 am
